Former algerian départments registrations (May 1951 - Oct 1963)

1^st cutting (May, 28th 1951 - June, 30th 1957) : Alger - Oran - Constantine - Territoire du Sud
2^nd cutting (from July, 1^st 1957) : Alger - Oran - Constantine - Batna - Bône - Médéa - Mostaganem - Orléansville - Sétif - Tiaret - Tizi-Ouzou - Tlemcen - Territoires du Sud
3^rd cutting (from April, 28th 1958) : Aumale - Bougie - Saïda
4^th cutting (from October 1958 seemingly) : Oasis - Saoura

Those departments have used during 13 years the same registration system as in France. Indeed, from May 1951 (the new cutting of the Île-de-France was not made), the first four Algerian départments received the 91 to 94 codes (France had affected the 90 code to the Territoire de Belfort).

Then, at the beginning of July 1957, thirteen new departments have been created at the same place of the four previous. Codes used were 9A to 9M and 9T.

On the following, many successive cuttings (creation and removal of departments) use the codes 9N, 9P, 9R, 8A and 8B.

Nota : the last registration numbers issued in 1963 are not known for all departments, so we present only the last known number with its issuing date. After 1963, go to the webpage showing the corresponding lists of departments and willayas. New explanation : all departments have not ended their series at the same time in 1963.
